Integrated Business Management
“Every Monday morning the Management Team has its weekly meeting to discuss the strategic direction of the company. In the meeting decisions are taken that shall protect the company's market position and performance. Periodic reviews show however that hardly any decisions are fully implemented. Somehow the translation of the decisions to lower levels in the organization is not successful. And while challenges that come with the globalization are mounting, the Management Team feels increasingly futile in addressing them.”
Integrated Business Management™ is world’s leading business alignment method. It incorporates the full range of best business practices that allow complete integration of all processes and people throughout an organization. Since it is powered by Natural Business Excellence™ it places people and business at the centre.
Integrated Business Management™ consists of eight distinct steps:
- Build Confidence
- Build Alignment
- Create Belonging
- Confirm Goal
- Confirm Integration
- Confirm Direction
- Create Synergy
- Create Connection
1. Build Confidence
With ‘build confidence’ an environment is created in which different perceptions become understood, and in which the entire team starts understanding how they will work together to ultimately deliver the project. Being capable of sharing and documenting knowledge are central in this. Each time people are assigned tasks, they are expected to know how to work together with others. This includes communication, coordination and documentation. In reality it is very seldom that people can just work together. People need not just be trained to do so, but it has to be instilled in the team, and subsequently maintained. NBE’s P10™ and IPOC™ theories and its applications play a central role in this. Ultimately it shall become the people’s language.
2. Build Alignment
With ‘build alignment’ a common understanding is created about all of the company’s relevant aspects and the natural change that will come with the execution of the task. It simply sees to it that a shared understanding is created on a higher level before work on details is done. IPEC™ plays a central role in this. Sharing knowledge, aligning business language and visualizing the business elements further enhance this step.
3. Create Belonging
With ‘create belonging’ an atmosphere is created in which people feel comfortable to work and take ownership of their roles and responsibilities. Being open to working together and willing to sharing knowledge with others for the greater good are central in this.
Each time people are assigned tasks, they are expected to work together in harmony till the completion, and even beyond in order to support the deliverables. It takes a lot though for people to work in harmony. Taking into account that people are ecosystem-oriented there are specific rules to be followed to get them to work in such harmony, especially for a long time. NBE’s IPOC™ and Elign™ theories play a central role in this. Ultimately it shall become the people’s language. The creation of belonging can be combined with teambuilding. The teambuilding can however not just replace this step. The incorporation of the respective theories, methods and tools is simply a must.
4. Confirm Goal
With ‘confirm goal’ an environment is created in which the task is placed within a bigger picture and its ultimate purpose is understood by each individual.
A bridge from the creation of belonging and the building of confidence towards the actual working on the activities is created through the association of the task at hand to the company’s business philosophy, strategic direction and market situation. NBE’s PC™ model plays a central role in this. Ultimately it shall become the people’s guide, glue and language. At the same time IPOC™ is used to create perfect understanding of the content, and divides the company into four distinct verticals and links the vision and mission via the strategy to the business operations, and finally to the work floor. It ultimately sees to it that all of a company’s layers are completely aligned.
5. Confirm Integration
With ‘confirm integration’, a shared practice about the integrated manner of running the different ways of doing business is created. Furthermore, the change that comes with this integrated way of working is identified. IPOC™ plays a central role in this. Sharing knowledge, aligning business language and visualizing the business elements, similar as before, further enhance this step. Furthermore, the models allow for intelligent discussions on different integration aspects that come with the different ways of doing business, especially though the visualization of the existing functional integration.
6. Confirm Direction
With ‘confirm direction a common understanding is created about the different ways business is done by the company and the viability of each of them. P10trade; plays a central role in this. Sharing knowledge, aligning business language and visualizing the business elements, similar as before, further enhance this step. Furthermore, the models allow for intelligent discussions on critical business issues that need to be addressed.
7. Create Synergy
With ‘create synergy a shared practice is created about the integrated way of running the business operations, and the change that comes with this integrated way of working due to the adoption of best business practices. IPEC™ plays a central role in this, and so does P10™. Sharing knowledge and aligning business language further enhance this step.
8. Create Connection
With ‘create connection’ a common understanding is created about the current organization and infrastructure setup that support the business operations. IPOC™ plays once more a central role in this. Sharing knowledge, aligning business language and visualizing the business elements, similar as before, further enhance this step. Furthermore, the models allow for intelligent discussions on critical issues that need to be addressed.
